PORTLAND, Ore., June 29th, 2015 – Trusted Computing Group today announced that its TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) Library Specification was recently approved as a formal international standard under ISO/IEC (the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission).
The specification was submitted to the ISO/IEC JTC 1* by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), following the JTC 1 Publicly Available Specification (PAS) Transposition process.
The standard will be published as ISO/IEC 11889:2015. The support in the final TPM 2.0 standardization ballot came from both developed and emerging economies, with approving votes from Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Ghana, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, the Russian Federation, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The TPM 2.0 Library Specification enables modern security and privacy protection, which combines the strengths of hardware and software-based security technologies. Its implementation in computing devices safeguards cryptographic keys; prevents private keys from being exported; shields PIN values used for authentication; and records and anonymously reports on software loaded during the boot process to protect against malware and attacks. As such, it will become an essential component of any comprehensive security strategy.
The specification was developed as a set of commands that enable the TPM to be used in a variety of systems and devices, from PCs, servers and networking gear to embedded systems and the Internet of Things. TCG recently published a Guidance for Securing IoT for public review.
