Collaboration to Help Ensure Secure Telecommunications Infrastructure and Mobile Services

Portland, Oregon, USA, May 4, 2015 – The Trusted Computing Group and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute announced today that they recently agreed to collaborate on the development of international standards for a secure global telecommunications infrastructure.

The Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is a not-for-profit organization formed to develop, define and promote open, vendor-neutral, global industry standards, supportive of a hardware-based root of trust, for interoperable trusted computing platforms.

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is an industry-led standards development organization with a membership of more than 800 manufacturers, network operators, service providers, research bodies, regulatory bodies and academia from more than 60 countries. ETSI undertakes pre-standardization and standardization activities in areas common to telecommunications, information technology, sound and television broadcasting. ETSI aims to produce globally applicable standards and is the recognized European Standardization Organization for telecommunications.

“TCG welcomes the opportunity to work closely with ETSI and its members on important standards for telecommunications,” said Mark Schiller, executive director, TCG. “As more and more devices are connected, the importance of standards and the key role of foundational trust in enabling security will only increase in criticality.”

The agreement between TCG and ETSI identifies mutually important topics, including cloud services and platform runtime integrity for telecom infrastructure and mobile devices.

The agreement also enables cooperation between the TCG Trusted Mobility Solutions work group and the following ETSI committees: ISG NFV (Network Functions Virtualisation), TC LI (Lawful Intercept), TC CYBER (Cybersecurity), and TC NTECH (Network Technologies). The agreement allows further collaboration between other TCG work groups and ETSI committees. TCG is already making contributions to ETSI ISG NFV regarding platform security and remote attestation using TCG technologies.
