More Relevant Than Ever: A Conversation with TCG President and Chairman Joerg Borchert

by TCG in Action

Security Stockwatch, a widely read site focused on financial and business issues, recently talked with TCG's president and chairman, Joerg Borchert. As the headlines and litigation around data breaches, attacks, malware and other security issues continue to dominate the news, common approaches to effective security are more important than ever.

Borchert notes in this interview, "...we believe that most aspects of computing, whether individual PCs, enterprise data centers, vast networks, the utility and manufacturing infrastructure and non-PC systems can, and should be, trusted systems." As his statement highlights, how can users be assured their data, transactions and devices are safe if they're not trusted?

Trusted Computing Group has led the effort to provide an interoperable, common way to embed trust into all sorts of computing devices. While TCG initially focused on the Trusted Platform Module for notebooks, the core concepts of a hardware-based root of trust now are extended into non-PC devices, including mobile ones, servers, networks and storage. TCG also is tackling security in the cloud and virtualization.
