So Nobody is Using the TPM? Not True, Says PwC. Learn More in a Webcast on September 27

by TCG in Action

This week has seen a flurry of news and reports out of the NSA Trusted Computing Conference and Expo. The NSA talked about the many benefits of trusted computing, while others detailed plans to embed trust, and thereby security, into cloud computing, virtualized platforms and mobile systems.

One question that remains, however, is whether enterprises really are using their TPMs, or Trusted Platform Modules. Yes, they are! Next week, in a free webcast hosted by Trusted Computing Group and moderated by Information Week, the worldwide consulting firm PwC will talk in detail about how it has cut costs and increased security with an easy, fast implementation of the TPM. PwC has talked before about internal use of the TPM. Now it will also address its guidance to its customers, who are clamoring for security solutions that will protect them from costly, embarrassing data breaches, attacks and ever-increasing malware. Bookending the presentation will be the folks from Softex, a TCG member who provides multi factor authentication solutions, will address the role of the TPM in those scenarios and talk about examples of it in use today.

Another question that comes up is cost - what is the cost of implementing a TPM? The basic hardware cost now is very minimal and included in most enterprise systems, but what about setting up thousands of TPMs and managing them? That will be addressed by both PwC and Softex, Inc.
