Trusted Computing Goes to India

by TCG in Action

Trusted Computing Group always has been a worldwide organization, in that its membership has been comprised of multinational companies headquartered in Europe, Asia and North America. More recently, TCG has continued to extend its efforts of enabling IT security via trust through regional forums, such as those established in Japan and more recently, China. TCG has participated in European conferences and seminars for years; this year we sponsored the Trusted Infrastructure Workshop in the UK and have participated in such pan-European events as InfoSecurity, RSA Europe, LinuxTag and many others.

Last week, TCG moved the show to India, one of the world's largest IT markets. While we have spoken at Interop Mumbai in 2008 and 2009, the December 2-3 NASSCOM-DSCI Information Security Summit 2010. This event is hosted by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and NASSCOM, India's premier trade body for the IT industry. Both bodies are heavily involved in education and advocacy for IT technology and services.

More than 300 attendees last week listened to more than 60 speakers from India and other countries, with many talks focusing on cyber security. Jeffrey Carr, noted cyber warfare expert, was a keynote speaker. His talk was followed by sessions on encryption, identity management, cloud security, transaction security and related topics. TCG's own Brian Berger, board member and marketing work group chair and Wave Systems and Mark Schiller, TCG board member and HP, both spoke to attendees.

Berger's talk included discussion of the growing adoption of Trusted Computing worldwide for data protection, network security and authentication, and he provided examples and brief case studies addressing each of these key elements. Schiller joined a panel titled "Security 3.0 - Embedding Security in Design" with experts from Microsoft, MIEL e-Security and ACS, Inc.

At this conference, DSCI noted it will release the first full version of its Best Practices Framework during the Summit and also release study reports on Insider Threats, Reasonable Security Practices, Cloud Computing and Service Provider Assessment Framework. These reports have been executed in collaboration with DIT, leading IT companies and Big 4 consulting firms.

Watch for more developments on the global front as TCG continues its mission to embed trust and enable better security.
