Next week, Oct. 25-28, the big brains in SCADA and Industrial Control System (ICS) security will gather in Seattle to, according to the event website, "provide control systems stakeholders from industry, government, academia, international, vendor, and research and development communities with an opportunity to network and engage in discussions related to securing control systems."
Speakers will address:
- Workforce Development
- Control Systems Security Research
- Standards Development
- Incident Response and Handling
- Vulnerability Management
- Emerging Technologies
- Managing Vendor Relations
- Law Enforcement and Forensics for ICS
- Integration of Cryptographic Technologies
- Security Management Metrics
- Information Sharing
- Wireless Integration in ICS environments
- Securing network perimeters
- Malware and Vulnerabilities
- Coordination of Threat Reporting and Determining Attribution
Why is Trusted Computing Group interested in this? TCG's Trusted Network Connect (TNC) architecture has proven useful to securing SCADA networks. This has been demonstrated by several TCG members, including Boeing, Byres Security and Juniper Networks. The IF-MAP (Metadata Access Control) protocol is the heart of this, because it acts as a ‘clearing house' for a wide variety of transitory data and enables communication among control system networks elements and the ability to monitor security and take action.
Scott Howard of Byres Security and Lisa Lorenzin authored an article on this, so for more detail, see the article.
